I recently had the honor of speaking at the Reagan Day Celebration. I was filling in for Steve Hook because he had important duties to fulfill on the job. Steve does such a brilliant job. When he talks, EVERYONE listens!
I felt compelled to focus on the “pro life” aspect of President Reagan! It was important for a number of reasons. First and foremost, Reagan was staunchly pro-life and wanted more than anything to overturn Roe vs Wade! Many people don’t talk about this very fact, and many people don’t even know about this very fact! There are many like myself who are just as pro-life, who are sickened by the sanctioning of murder within the womb! That, among many other things pertaining to the evils of abortion that include the many unsanitary abortion clinics where many a woman have entered and died.
“Truly children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward” (Psalm 127:3)
Here we are in 2015, and how we wish Ronald Reagan were here to set things straight in the world!
The Middle East is on fire, militant leaders around the world have never been stronger and our national debt, never higher!! America has lost the ability to push back the evils of radical Islamic terror that is so prevalent in the world today. While many of us have not lost our willingness to fight this enemy, we don’t have the leadership to back us! And we know if Ronald Reagan were here we’d be singing a much different tune, not just throughout the world but right here at home!
Reagan once said, as MANY of us know:
“Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem.” And he hoped that America would once “again be the exemplar of freedom and a beacon of hope for those who do not have freedom.”
But conservative ideals don’t stop at the door of limited government! They certainly didn’t for Reagan!
Reagan said in an essay to the Human Life Review:
“Abraham Lincoln recognized that we could not survive as a free land when some men could decide that others were not fit to be free and should therefore be slaves, likewise, we cannot survive as a free nation when some men decide that others are not fit to live and should be abandoned to abortion or infanticide.”
Clearly, Reagan was comparing slavery to abortion and infanticide, and RIGHTFULLY SO!
“My administration is dedicated to the preservation of America as a free land, and there is no cause more important for preserving that freedom than affirming the transcendent right to life of all human beings, the right without which no other rights have any meaning.”
It’s not so important when Reagan said these very words as much as it was why he said them. He insisted that like slavery must end, so should should the senseless killing of babies within the womb. And it was the very TRUTH behind those words: “preserving freedom” and “the right to life,” for “all human beings, the right without which no other rights have any meaning,”
“As we continue to work to overturn Roe vs. Wade, we must also continue to lay the groundwork for a society in which abortion is not the accepted answer to unwanted pregnancy,” Reagan once wrote: “Pro-life people have already taken heroic steps, often at great personal sacrifice, to provide for unwed mothers. I recently spoke about a young pregnant woman named Victoria, who said, ‘In this society we save whales, we save timber wolves and bald eagles and Coke bottles. Yet, everyone wanted me to throw away my baby.’”
Haven’t many of us “pro-life people” been saying this for a long time? It’s so refreshing to know that Ronald Reagan said it as well!! The importance of as saving the life of a child was meant so much to Reagan!
Reagan is probably one of the most well liked presidents ever! His words matter and so do the words of all leaders of the free world, because human life matters. Even the life of a whale, a timber wolf and bald eagle!!
Said at a Debate Between the President and Former Vice President Walter F. Mondale, Reagan emphasized: “With me, abortion is not a problem of religion, it’s a problem of the Constitution. I believe that until and unless someone can establish that the unborn child is not a living human being, then that child is already protected by the Constitution, which guarantees life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to all of us.”
“You have been my guide since I was first formed . . . from my mother’s womb you are my God” Psalm 22:10-11
Words cannot be more powerful than that. Individual rights under the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution are guaranteed to ALL, simply because, human life begins at conception. Whether one chooses to believe that or not, we have scientific proof that it does!
Reagan speaks to the March for Life Rally:
“And yet our opponents tell us not to interfere with abortion. They tell us not to impose our morality on those who wish to allow or participate in the taking of the life of infants before birth. Yet no one calls it imposing morality to prohibit the taking of life after a child is born. We’re told about a woman’s right to her own body, but doesn’t the unborn child have a higher right and that is the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!”
I say, EVERY conservative candidate who is running for office, when he or she is being accused of having a war on women they should just reiterate those very words, and insist that not only do unborn children have the right to live, they have a “higher right” to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
When Reagan left office in 1988, he was asked by Brett Baer what he regretted the most and said he “regretted that he didn’t get enough court appointments to be able to overturn Roe v. Wade. This is President Ronald Reagan. It wasn’t t just about limited government, national debt, jobs, the economy, and national security for Reagan, MORE IMPORTANTLY, it was about securing the life of the unborn child, because remember, “the right without which no other rights have any meaning,”
I say, we need leaders who are willing to grow a spine, and do what ever it takes to over turn Roe vs Wade. Over 55,000,000 babies since 1973 have been slaughtered in the womb!
“The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.” Ronald Reagan.
